Worker with Ladder

Photo Tour

These images show the magnitude of the repair project to get The Education Center at Old Colonial up and running. A lot of work has already been done, but the building is still a work in progress.

As you look over these images, see if you can hear the voices of children running through the halls to their next class. We can!

Here are several images of the outside of the building. It's all brick and in good shape.

Three rooms had so much water damage from the leaking ceiling that all the original hardwood flooring had to be removed. This will be replaced with plywood and carpeting.

The original, 1939, section of the building has a lot of character, including this natural theater space with >20ft ceiling and a stage with lighting.

Section A is the newest classroom area of the building. It also had extensive water damage, but since it sits on a concrete slab the cleanup was easier. The County left much furniture, including many electronic white boards which need to be tested to see whether they are working.

The cafeteria needs a lot of cleanup work, including mold removal in the ceiling, which will be complicated by the utilities running above, and the old wooden roof. The kitchen will need a complete rework to be brought up to code. However, we don't need the kitchen and cafeteria to operate home school co-ops.

The water system for the school runs off a well, with five, 500gal tanks and pumps to pressurize the school's water pipes. Heating and cooling are provided by about 30 HVAC heat pump units, and a chiller and boiler. The latter appear to be in working order, and the well and well pump are working. The entire water system must be tested and passed by local health authorities.

The hallways in section B are in pretty good shape. And a benefactor donated a huge amount of office furniture from an office building.
